Runit provides “real simple real time POS software.” This Internet–based program will work with the suggested IBM SurePOS 600 or almost any other POS system and is the “TopTenREVIEWS Silver Award” winning point of sale solution.
Runit will customize a POS solution to fit your business—not the other way around. You can add and take away features as your business grows or just during busy times, like the holidays. However, be prepared to pay a bit more for the luxuries Runit provides. The monthly fee is $119 and the IBM hardware is around $4,500 (at the time of this review).
If this review were based on looks alone, the ultra–modern IBM SurePOS 600 would rank at the top. This attractive, black, all–in–one system has a small footprint and offers everything you need. Because so many of the peripherals are integrated, it presents a clean, uncluttered appearance.
The first–class features include a touch screen, symbol laser gun, compact IBM POS keyboard, integrated magnetic strip reader, integrated customer display, cash drawer integration tray, full size cash drawer, fixed till and a SureMark TF6 thermal receipt printer. All of the peripherals are color–matched to the system unit.
Runit’s web–based software has all of the practical features you need to run a retail store. Something that sets this POS solution apart is that they will customize the software package to fit your needs. You can talk to a representative who will ask you some simple questions about your business—then they will build a package specifically for your store.
The Runit software will track layaways, back orders, special orders and has a gift registry. It will store all of your customer’s information including transaction history and credit limit. You will also be able to track your employees’ time and commission.
A web–based system has some important advantages. You can access all of the reports from your corporate headquarters and Runit will backup and store all important information. However, there is an additional charge if you want to access the database from more than one workstation.
You could approach Runit with almost any need, whether it is integrating a warehouse with your store or a website with your store, and they would have a solution.
The system is easy to navigate and use, and they offer a free trial so you can try it before you buy it.
The Runit system is more expensive than the other POS solutions in this review; however, they provide a top–notch service. It may be overkill for a small store, so we recommend carefully evaluating your needs and plans for the future, and then talking to a representative to see if the Runit POS is right for you.
Runit offers an online manual for almost every aspect of your system. If you have further questions, you can contact their customer support team by email or phone. We found the customer service representatives helpful in providing valuable information about their system.
If you choose the IBM hardware, it comes with a one–year, on–site warranty. Extended warranties are available for a fee.
The web–based Runit software combined with the IBM SurePOS 600 creates a point of sale system that is efficient, easy to use and attractive. Even though this solution costs more, the investment may be worth it depending on your business.
