The POS–X is easier on the pocketbook than the top two POS systems, but still includes everything you need to operate a retail store and is the “TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award” recipient. This package even comes with a surge protector and all of the required cables.
This is a comparable system to the #2 product, The General Store. POS–X offers a better computer with an 80 GB hard drive; however, the software, Proxis Store Manager, isn’t as complete as The General Store.

POS Hardware:
POS–X offers a complete hardware package including a cash drawer, barcode scanner, card reader, a thermal receipt printer and a 17–inch LCD monitor. We added a label printer for $256.
The computer has 256 MB of RAM and an 80 GB hard drive. This is sufficient to store a huge inventory and operate any other business related programs like Microsoft Access, Excel and accounting software.
POS Software:
Proxis Store Manager is a basic program with an easy–to–navigate interface. You and your employees will become familiar with the program and its features in no time.
The system has four areas: Store Manager Cash Register, Store Manager Office, Code Name and Store Manager Data Integrator. Through these four sections, you can perform day–to–day sales, access the system settings, retrieve reports, create and print bar codes and labels as well as import and export data.
Proxis offers extensive customer tracking, password–protected multiple security levels and a number of valuable reports. This software doesn’t support photo images for items in your inventory and it doesn’t offer the gift registry/certificate feature.
Functionality/Ease of Use:
Because the POS–X/Proxis comes as a complete package, you won’t encounter any integration problems. This system is ready to use out of the box. The interface is well organized and easy to navigate.
Price/Value:
At $3055, this is one of the least expensive software–based point of sale systems in this review. The hardware is top–notch and even includes a surge protector and all of the required cables. The software is adequate for most small retail stores.
Training/Support:
The POS–X system comes with a 30–minute training session over the phone. There is an online user guide and an informative knowledge base. If you have further questions, you can contact customer support via phone or email. The system hardware comes with a one–year warranty.
The Proxis Store Manager comes with 90–days of free technical support.
Summary:
For $3055, this is one of the best point of sell systems on the market. The package comes with top–ranked hardware including a PC that will perform all POS tasks, and is powerful enough to run accounting software, office programs and more.
